Hampton University Style Alert: "12-2"

As the new school year begins, new trends emerge.

Hampton University is known for many things, one being the culture of fashion that surrounds campus life. As mentioned in previous blog posts, Hampton is a never-ending fashion show, meaning that class attire is included when it comes to getting fly.

Every year, Hampton hosts traditional day parties (12-2's) that are held in the student center. For those who don't attend Hampton, the name stems from the actual starting time of the party to the ending time.

The first "12-2" is the one most notorious for "dressing yah behind off." While attending this event, I went around to capture some of the latest styles/trends that seem to be going around campus, along with catching up with old friends and just having a great time. I'm extremely excited to see where this year takes me in regards to networking, connections and great new content as it relates to the blog. The Minimal

Josh: @jayndr Jaylen: @_jayzus

As I walked around, I definitely noticed a lot of color coordination. I find it to be an important aspect of a fit when it comes to color coordinating, not only just your outfit but with a friend as well. If there are a group of friends who always know how to put a fit together, it would be Josh and Jaylen. Josh Anderson is a 2nd year Bio Pre-Med major from Netherland's, Amsterdam. Jaylen (on the right), is a 2nd year Journalism major/ Cinema studies minor from Hillside, New Jersey. One thing about Hampton that I adore is that it brings all kinds together, no matter what background, age, skin color and place of origin you come from, It welcomes all people, that creates friendships for a lifetime. For your leisure, I've asked the guys a couple of questions, just to elaborate more on a personal note.

Gabby: What do you love most about Hampton?

Josh: I enjoy attending Hampton University because there is a lot of diversity and people from different backgrounds. I enjoy how stories can be shared and how you learn new things every day.

Jaylen: I love the HBCU experience and the drive that everyone has to succeed, which makes me want to work 10x harder, especially in the Scripps Howard School of Journalism & Communications.

Gabby: Who is a fashion icon or someone you look up to in regards to the fashion industry?

Josh: Pharrell Williams.

Jaylen: I honestly don't have an icon, but if I had to say, I'd say a mix of Big Sean& Justin Combs.

The Color Block

@starrrrrrr_ @_young_eric

As we're slowly coming out of summer and approaching fall, It is important to spice up any outfit with a bold statement or a pop of color. Orange is most definitely the "it" color of the season. Although Orange is pretty bold, It's perfect to wear during the hot summer months. Complimenting orange with darker undertones and pieces, will ensure that your fit will stand out and make a statement. Without a Hampton introduction, are you even a student? Starr is a 2nd year, 5 year MBA major from Hillside, New Jersey. She is a hard worker and is very dedicated to her passion. She specializes in hair/ makeup and plans on one day opening her own business dedicated to those fields. If you live on campus, or just need a good stylist, her hair and makeup page is listed here @touchedbystarr. Eric is a 2nd-year Sociology /Criminal Justice major from South Philadelphia. He is a very good networker and is really involved at Hampton. He is the Men's Caucus Assistant director of seminar and SGA Senate.

@ashj._

Graphic bold tees are taking over this season, especially distressed jeans and shorts.

The Dream Team

@dhoneyyyy @heydon3

You can honestly never go wrong with a simple white tee or top to complete an outfit. I've had to stray away from my simple white tee's because I have so many of them. I've featured Starr earlier, but here are two of Hampton's greatest. Devon (Middle) is a 2nd-year Kinesiology major from Columbia, Maryland. Devon is extremely active around campus. She is a great networker and enjoys meeting new people and making new connections. She is apart of the Kinesiology club, G.I.R.L, and Athletic Marketing. Donnell (Right) is a 2nd year Bio Pre-Med major from Woodbridge, Virginia. Donnell is very outgoing and energetic, he is currently a member of The Greer Dawson Student Leadership Program, that organizes a lot of the school's activities and events.

@kazanya_

It's so cool when you meet people who understand certain fundamentals of fashion and who support designers that are slept on or not brought up often. It's crazy because I was just thinking about getting a pair of J.W Anderson converses a couple of days ago. They are honestly so dope and different. They add a bold statement to any outfit, even if it's just a plain shirt and jeans. I really like Kennét's style because of the dope statements and pieces. We actually just met today, therefore I wasn't able to get more about her, but please feel free to follow her gram. She specializes in locs, so if you ever need to get your hair right I highly suggest you check her out.
